Review of On the Beach (1959) by Joel E — 01 Dec 2007
This is more interesting to watch as a cinematic artifact than as entertainment. It's a bit of a mess, switching from epic romance to thriller and back again, punctuated by long (too long) sequences of dialogue between the movie's characters. With a tighter vision, this really could have been something. In a way, it's a precursor for the much better Children of Men.
And what is with this movie's obsession with Waltzing Matilda?
