Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Steve G — 24 Mar 2009
Once I got over the shock of hearing "Bond...James Bond" uttered by a voice not belonging to Sean Connery, I really enjoyed George Lazenby's portrayal of 007. The only part of his performance I didn't like was the very first fight scene on a beach.
For some reason he threw numerous punches in that scene without bending his arms, making him look like a 7-year-old girl in her first fight. Other than that he was very solid and I would like to have seen him in more Bond movies.
Diana Rigg was one of the most beautiful and complex Bond girls ever and Telly Savalas was not bad as the arch-villain Ernst Stavros Blofeld. The music and mood were both darker than usual in this movie as Bond is at times fed up with the Secret Service and considers finally settling down with one woman.
