Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Patrick E — 19 Apr 2009
Don't ever let anyone tell you that this isn't the best of the original James Bond movies (Daniel Craig's Bond doesn't count, and I consider it a seperate series). Lazenby adequately fills in Sean Connery's large shoes, but it's only in his scenes with Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas that he really starts to shine. Lazenby had a lot of potential, and I wish he would have done another Bond film, rather than the producers bringing Sean Connery back and giving us the truly awful Diamonds are Forever.
OHMSS had one of the best Bond stories, and as far as I'm concerned, the only emotionally resonant moments of the original Bond movies. This one made you feel, and that was quite an achievement.
