Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Vijay L — 18 Nov 2010
George Lazenby is not Bond. He breaks the fourth wall. His one-liners are among the worst in any English movie - not to mention Bond movie. He just doesn't fit.
The movie itself has a share of issues. Bond, M and Blofeld all behave inexplicably at various points. The first half of the overlong movie is unusually boring - and permeated by an ill-fitting romantic soundtrack. Bond (later) gets locked up in what must be his easiest prison.
The second half makes up quite a bit. The action scenes are thrilling. Blofeld's mystery is diminished by his appearance, but an on-the-field villain is a welcome change. The villainous plan is insane yet plausible enough for the fictional works of the time.
