Review of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) by Tom C — 16 Aug 2009
The best James Bond movie with a terrific story, great score, the best Bond villain, best Bond woman and a very good one-shot performance as Bond by George Lazenby. One of the best movies of 1969, It wasn't until real movie lovers like Raymond Benson, Lee Pfeiffer, Steven Jay Rubin and John Cork started writing about the Bond films as serious cinema that I realized I was not alone in my opinion of OHMSS.
I think the film suffers from the same syndrome as a movie like Paint Your Wagon; often dismissed early on as a bad movie, bad reviews continue to be written based on those early reviews and often by lazy reviewers who have either never seen it or have not watched it in years.
