Review of O'Lucky Man (2003) by Chris A — 26 Jun 2008
Brilliantly surreal masterpiece or bizarre self-indulgent folly? All I know is that this is one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen, which is really saying something. I realize that a three-hour musical about the evils of capitalism is unlikely to be every viewer's cup of tea (or coffee, in this movie's case), but this nevertheless boasts fine performances from McDowell and the rest of the cast (most of whom play multiple roles), Alan Price's excellent song score and some of the strangest imagery ever put on screen.
This is probably the only movie in history to feature both a man with a sheep's body and a porno film starring Santa Claus. Also, Helen Mirren was pretty hot when she was younger, which also adds to its watchability.
