Review of Old Joy (2006) by Keanex — 27 Mar 2020
The story of two friends who have grown apart, one who hasn't changed much and one who has moved into a domesticated wife, and their trip in the woods. I was recommended this movie as a new Criterion Channel member because it's short and I might enjoy it.
I did enjoy some of the nature shots and the low-budget film aesthetic was interesting, giving it an older feel than it truly is. I didn't care for the movie much though. The dialog is a uninteresting and I didn't find the story to be told in an interesting way either.
I get that the dialog being sparse and awkward is a sign of them being in very different worlds now, but it didn't do much for me.
