Review of Okja (2017) by Nicole%20 C — 23 Jun 2017
This movie is terrible. The characters are over the top and one-dimensional. The plot is utterly predictable. The music is manipulative.
It seems the director is throwing American cinematic cliches at the screen in the hopes of being "cool." For example, the Animal Rights leader in the movie kicks the sh*t out of another member for no reasons. The actor is well-known for being in all those violent movies, so we had to make him hurt someone, right? It makes no sense in the story. The director relies on a lot of gimmicks instead of just telling a good story. Even the foley and sound design is bad. The best part of this movie is the scenery in the beginning, and all I could think was how sad it is was that a big film crew had to disturb this remote and beautiful place.
The topic is an important one, but this story is inauthentic and offensive for so many reason.
