Review of October Sky (1999) by Rob F — 21 Feb 2009
October Sky is a great movie that comes from the heart. It takes place in Coalwood, West Virginia where a boy named Homer Hikam (Jake Gyllenheal)who can't get a football scholarship. So one night a satelite Sputnik flies over top of their town & Homer starts getting an idea about building a rocket.
So he rounds of suppiles to build one. His buddies pitch in & help Homer accomplish what he's set out to do. They start launching off rockets left & right trying to impress everyone in town.
Later on, their rockets become a dangerous thing for their town win one of their rockets end up going somewhere that gets them in trouble. They show everyone that it wasn't their rocket that did the damage.
Homer's teacher Ms. Riley inspired them to build their rockets & tell them that they could end up getting scholarships if they enter a science fair & win. So they enter & win for having the best project.
They get back home & dedicate their rockets to everyone in town for beliving in them & what they do. October Sky is a very touching movie that puts a smile on your face. Its very entertaining with a great story.
The acting is believible from everyone. The acting makes the film come to life. October Sky is a heart felt touching experience that you will never forget. 5 stars.
