Review of Ocean's Eight (2018) by Jesse B — 21 Nov 2018
Ahh yes, the obligatory "All Girl Version" of a once cool franchise of films. If the all female Ghostbusters taught us anything, its that imitations are hardly ever as good as the originals. Having said that, I don't think this faired as poorly as that Ghostbusters movie, but that isn't saying much and this was surely no major hit.
I feel like Hollywood keeps trying to push Girls in comedy and this is an example of its lackluster. The movie was pretty decent as far as an Oceans movie plot and presence, but without the right cast.
..it just doesn't take the cake. The casting for this movie, was yet another experiment, and I dont think people took to it warmly. I wasn't thrilled to say the least. I don't think there was even 1 moment in this movie that made me laugh.
What a shame. Ahh but at least the story was alright, in a girly sort of way. So hollywood wanted the women play in the men's sandbox; fine. Can They get back to making more movies that don't play gender swapping with the main cast? This whole gender swapping trend is played out.
It's just a gimmick, a cheap gimmick to try to pump life into an aging franchise, please be done with it.
