Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Kevin M — 25 Jul 2007
Herzog takes on the Dracula myth, combining Murnau's 1922 masterwork with his own hyper-realistic sensiblities to form a wholly unique vision. Every horror cliche is turned on its ear, and if you think you know the story, think again.
Klaus Kinski is the title character, a wraithlike and eternally tortured soul. Somehow he becomes sympathetic even as he's molesting the beautiful Isabelle Adjani. Ends with one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous images ever committed to celluloid.
