Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Jonathan B — 21 Feb 2009
Kinski's prescence dominates this film, despite only appearing on screen for only a few minutes in total, his performance is that good. A fitting tribute to the pre WWII German cinema, or as Herzog calls it 'true German cinema'.
The big question is, is it a genre film? Yes and no. Herzog pays tribute to the Vampire film in his own way, providing some truly memorable images for the audience eyes to feast on - especially the plague sequence and the thousands of (real) rats in Wismar.
