Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Joe H — 04 Mar 2009
There is something about silent film -- probably the low quality of the camera and the underdevelopment of film technique -- that allow films of the era to have a haunting, murky look. The medium is still far enough removed from reality when it lacks sound and color (and is grainy), that it is given an arm's length historical feel.
This makes Nosferatu creepy, when it might otherwise seem bland and drawn out.
