Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Ninon M — 19 Aug 2017
Murnau's landmark expressionist film has aged frighteningly well, being just as terrifying today as it was back in 1922. Perhaps the reason of this admirable phenomenon is the rare, unrivalled, gothic and horrifying realm of the picture, which looks even more harrowing in its rustic black and white.
Diabolically haunting and expressive, 'Nosferatu' is a masterpiece of dread, and Max Schreck defined the physical appearance of a vampire. Moreover, in the manner of other expressionist works, 'Nosferatu' is at the crossroad of other arts, being particularly sculptural and poetic.
