Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Andrey B — 18 Aug 2017
I believe that Nosferatu is the crowning achievement of German expressionism. With all due respect to Caligari, which I consider the most important expressionist picture, Nosferatu is like Übermensch of German expressionism, like the Star-child from 2001.
The nightmarish experience you get from watching Nosferatu is incomparable. The aesthetics are so high that it's like a painting come to life. In fact, many scenes from Nosferatu are influenced by paintings. There are so many remarkable scenes and visuals, the mystery, the occultism: all this combine Nosferatu, a creation that surpassed its source in legacy.
