Review of North by Northwest (1959) by Ryan G — 18 Jun 2011
I really liked the fact that this film, was that kind of secret agent styled film, even though it probably should have been generic, it was nothing of the sort. It's every bit as thrilling as any of the newer action films and it is more than likely more thrilling.
I really liked the style, Hitchcock was one of the masters at the camera, some of his shots are unbelievable, some of them that were shot from above were breathtaking. It's even got some humor, when Thornhill is in the police station and he says " I don't need a lawyer I need a police officer" that was very funny and there are a couple of other scenes that made me laugh, but for the most part I was admiring what Hitchcock created, he made an action movie the way they should be.
While the acting is not really the major part of the film, none of the roles were very hard, I liked it anyway. Cary Grant was a great actor, Eva Marie Saint... lets just say got me very excited during some of those scenes she had with Grant.
I got a huge smile on my face when I saw Edward Platt, Get Smart is my all time favorite show, it was kind of weird seeing him outside of it but I realize that's not the only thing he did with his career.
I kept waiting for someone to call him Chief. North by Northwest is one of Hitchcock's fines.
