Review of Noriko's Dinner Table (2005) by Sven S — 09 Feb 2009
What a cool movie! so confusing!
At the end of suicide club the background story was not clear but I had some hunches. noriko destroyed them all, making way for a much broader view on the story. I would even go so far to call it one of the best criticisms of Japanese society. The "playing a role" thing with jobs and even "roles" like mother or father is really observable... no other way people can stand all day at the door of a shop saying "irrashaimase". ;) Some things got lost in the subtitles though, things like "wa" for circle and the additional meaning it has, the whole concept behind it are mostly unknown in the west.
I really loved noriko's dinner table and cant wait for a sequel.. and I really hope it will destroy everything I think I know about the story once again!
