Review of Nobody Knows (2004) by Ryan D — 01 Nov 2005
This is an excellent film, by a visionary Japanese director. It is long and slow-paced, which is very truthful to the material, which takes place over almost a whole year. It examines the lives of four half-siblings (they have four different fathers) and how their party-loving and immature mother abandons them. This beautifully realized and meditative film makes one feel indescribably good inside. It is sad, joyful, sweet and sardonic at times. It feels just like real life, and in a way that I have never seen any other motion picture do, it makes one feel fully engrossed in the welfare of it's charcaters. It is a truly wonderful and human film, and is a must-see in my opinion.
Rating: * * * * (Hot).
