Review of Nobody Knows (2004) by Samuel D — 10 Nov 2009
Bleak, an hour too long, and blatantly manipulative. The one area where the film works, besides the surprisingly good acting from such young children, is the cinematography. Having lived in Tokyo this film's mise en scene is the most realistic portrayal of the city.
Films like Lost in Translation make it look like a neon paradise when most of the city is cramped, concrete apartment buildings; convenience stores; and small parks.
