Review of Noah (2013) by Mike J — 24 Apr 2015
Went in with low expectations due to remembering mixed reviews upon release, but eagerly wanted to see it once it finally arrived on Netflix. I heard all criticisms prior to going in and was ready for errors and flaws.
..that may have helped because I really enjoyed the film. I was into it the whole time and couldn't wait to see what happened next. That just is what it is- good entertainment. I didn't find any retractable faith issues at all.
Calling God the creator was fine with me, and the rock monsters were just angels (which I didn't know going in- this was fine as a metaphor for a movie). Crowe was very good and can act. Same with the cast.
I enjoyed the spin on the story a lot about Cain's descendants and felt it added another dimension of intriguing plot in addition to the flood. I liked the way they separated Noah's view from the rest of society (respect for creation vs pwer hungry ego that rapes the land- very well done relation to today's world if you're into the deep stuff.
) Again, at the end/the second half, I didn't feel the drag many did. I felt suspense and intrigue and curiosity for how it would end. The ending? A happy one. That's all. It really mixed a vision for the film with a sense of realism and humanity that was an entertaining surprise.
How biblically accurate is it? Does it matter? If I want the biblical version, I will read the bible. This is a Hollywood blockbuster starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Conelly. It was accurate enough for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
If anything, it strengthened my faith as I equate God with nature and the creator, and the Bad Guys were those who were who I consider bad- greedy, selfish, unethical, immoral people who take earth for granted and destroy it and nature.
That's ego, pride, greed, and selfishness. It was a little twisted at times in terms of oddness, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. In the end, I would just call it a very good action film.
Now I'll go read the real story of Noah in the Bible. God bless.
