Review of Noah (2013) by Enoch L — 24 Apr 2018
This is my rating as a movie watcher, not as a Christian. The movie had a lot to do since the story of Noah is rather short, including the stories beyond the Ark. The action in the movie was great but it felt unnecessary (with an exception of one or two of the action scenes). There was too much CGI. In fact it had so much that the movie was only slightly less painful to watch than I, Frankenstein.
The movie started out nicely, but quickly became boring and I started dosing off once they got into the Ark. When Noah went psychotic, I came back, but only for a short while. I saw what the director was trying to do. He tried to mix modern science and medical knowledge with the Old Testament stories and also mixed in some other Old Testament stories to make the movie more than just Noah. But it eventually felt like he was trying too hard to get everyone to like it, and by the looks of it, the plan backfired.
The movie ended the way that I think would've worked better if it started with the ending. The acting was good and it was funny to see the cast while thinking of previous fantastical roles (i.e. Logan Lerman- Percy Jackson, Russell Crowe- Jor El, Anthony Hopkins- Odin, etc.). That was one of the very few upsides to this movie, which I thought, for the most part, was a bore.
Now as a Christian, I'm just going to have to remind myself that this is Hollywood and I shouldn't get angry at the unbelievable amount of inaccurate and misinterpreted scenes. So for you students out there that have homework on Noah, don't get your information from the movie. Like the old saying, the book is better than the movie.
None of my Christian views went into the rating but nonetheless, I still didn't like this movie. Then again, I think the audience that I was watching this with was a big influence in my experience (loud, disrespectful, and gossiping teenagers).
