Review of No Escape (2015) by Shamus G — 05 Dec 2016
Having never firsthand seen Owen Wilson tackle a somber and more serious role, I was very skeptical to see what the comedic actor of Wedding Crashers and Cars fame could do with such a role. I'm pleasantly surprised.
This is actually one of the best performances of Wilson's career. He's much more of a Harrison Ford than a Tom Cruise, emoting a lot more familial concern and depicting himself as a resonant everyman with everything to lose.
The bulk of the supporting case fills their roles fairly well, but Wilson shines in what I though would be a monotonous cookie cutter thriller. What I got instead was a borderline horror flick with Wilson driving every key scene.
Highly underrated film.
