Review of No Escape (2015) by Drew B — 24 Aug 2015
I never developed any feeling for this family fleeing rebels in an unnamed southeast Asian country. Owen Wilson was a failure in business so he took this job dragging his whinny wife and precocious yet irritating children along. The day of their arrival there is a coup and the rebels are hunting and executing foreigners.
We are treated to numerous scenes of people being hacked to death or shot in the head. The oldest daughters disobedience puts them all in danger time and again but hey, dad loves her so it's OK.
Pierce Brosnan has the best role as an intelligence agent that meets them on the plane and later helps rescue them out of guilt for being responsible for the destabilization. He sacrifices himself to save the family and thus gains redemption.
This would have been fine watching on Netflix or Amazon. I would not waste my money for this film.
