Review of Nine (2009) by Hayley D — 07 Aug 2010
Rule #1 of musicals: have a plethora of good, memorable songs. Rule #2 of musicals: have a good story. Well, um, for the most part, Nine breaks both of those rules (which I admit...I pretty much made them up, but it doesn't make them less true).
For such a talented and award winning cast and crew, the movie sure was...boring. The only exceptions were Marion Cotillard (the only actor or actress in the film who seemed to actually try) and Fergie's (yeah, I know.
..it surprised me, too) "Be Italian" sequence. Some of the Italian scenery was nice to see on film, too. By the end, however, Nine just seemed an unnecessary and uninspiring film.
