Review of Nighthawks (1981) by Michael W — 25 Jun 2012
The background to this film is more interesting than the film itself. Meant to be The French Connection 3, and to again star Hackman with Richard Pryor as his sidekick, it was rewritten when Hackman passed.
The best thing in this is Rutget Hauer, in his film debut as the chilling bomber. Stallone does all his own stunts as well, giving the film a little more power. The direction, by Bruce Malmuth, however, is pretty bog standard and doesn't raise the film to any decent height.
A curiousity for what it could have been.
