Review of Nightbreed (1990) by Adam C — 04 May 2013
Clive Barker's take on horror/fantasy story is as big as a failure as Final Fantasy 14 (For those familiar about the game's reception.) I was expecting a lot of things from Mr. Barker, being a fan of his work.
This film suffers from a low budget, unknown cast, frivolous plot and many scenes that didn't make sense. The makeup work on the characters is very shoddy. A lot of the set pieces you can tell are fake, for example when one of the characters is walking in the graveyard, you can in the further distance that the entrance to a tomb is just a wall painting.
The dialog is unbearably bad and it shows in the character performances. The only person I recognized in this film was David Cronenberg, and he's not even an actor. His acting is as mono-tonal as Keeanu Reeves' acting.
Trust me, he's a better filmmaker than he is an actor. The things he does in the movie in certain plot points make no sense such as killing random people who have nothing to do with his goal throughout the film.
This movie was so bad I literally threw the disc in my garbage bin because that's what it was.
