Review of Night Train to Terror (1985) by Allan C — 07 Feb 2016
Amateurishly made horror anthology film where God and Satan are on a train discussing the fate of three different horror themed situations. There are three different stories, the first of which is probably the best, but not by much.
In the first story, set in a mental hospital, is probably the goriest of all the stories, which was enough to hold my interest, even if the gore wasn't done with much flair or style. The last sequence has a bit more scale to it, telling the story about a servant of Satan looking to destroy mankind, but it's all terribly done.
What's extra ridiculous about this film is that it's actually edited down versions of three other badly made horror films, tied together by the God/Devil segments (which also includes a bunch of New Wave teenagers dancing to the hits of the day).
Bizarrely enough, Philip Yordan, who actually wrote some excellent films in his time ("Johnny Guitar" or "The Big Combo"), wrote all three of these awful films. The film also surprisingly features a number of respectable b-level of stars of the past, including John Phillip Law, Cameron Mitchell, Tony Giorgio, Ferdy Mayne, Marc Lawrence and also a young Richard Moll.
Somehow this film does have a cult following, and even though I consider myself a horror movie fan, I didn't see this film's charms.
