Review of Night of the Living Dead (1968) by Florian M — 29 Nov 2011
I recently saw this movie on blu-ray. Considering that it was a low budget production and it was made in the 1960s, that movie is a masterpiece. I like, that it starts off very fast, first scene, first zombie, first kill, there's no fucking around with unnecessary subplots.
After that, it slows down a little bit, when Ben and Barbra are fortifying the house to keep the undead outside. But that's only a short interruption. After that it gets fast. here are people in the basement, there's zombies everywhere around the house and they're not hesitating getting in.
There's a conflict growing between the survivors and it all turns out to an ending, that was really surprising, shocking and exciting in the same way. Great job by George Romero an his crew. You'll realize, that there are some scenes, where you can tell that it was low budget, but thats not annoying in any way.
There's the bad acting (at least I felt it was bad acting) of the character Tom and the for my opinion annoying behavior of Barbra. But on the other hand, there's that awesome role of Ben, well played by Duane Jones in his first movie role and the high amount of gore.
There's zombies eating human flesh and a girl eating her parents. That's kind of shocking, but it is also something that makes the movie great. Last word: it's an awesome movie for being the first zombie apocalypse and is still one of the best, if not the best.
I'll give it 10 zombies out of 10.
