The film may be low budget, but it works very much in its favor with a look of an old news reel or a home movie quality. Some people new to the genre may be disappointed by the low gore, but the film isn't about that, it's about the characters.
The people who can't progress due to fighting and bickering which slowly shows the consequences. Romero was able to progress film with his film and it was and still is a very influential film that people new to the genre and film fans in general should not miss.
