Review of New York Stories (1989) by Post G — 02 Dec 2011
What a hotchpotch of films! The first (Scorcese) is woefully overblown, heavy-handed, banal and predictable. The acting is on the level of a soap opera. 0.5 star.
The second (Coppola) reads like it was written by a pubescent girl. Or Sofia. 1 star.
The final film (Allen) is brilliant. Hilarious, inventive and without the self-indulgence and egotism of the first two. Well, perhaps it's just the normal Woody Allen egotism, but it's delivered with enough wit that we're happy to accept it! 4.5 stars.
