Review of New York, New York (1977) by Adam K — 17 Feb 2010
Entertaining quasi musical that was crushed by having the misfortune of opening on the day both "Star Wars" and "Smokey and the Bandit" came out. Excellent music and exciting editing choiced make this film go by quick but its ruined by the pointlessly sad ending and the fact that it is nowhere near as important as the actors and Martin Scorsese seem to think it is.
Liza Minnelli is tarty and DeNiro is a little to smug. But its watchable if not all that important. Watch quickly for Bruce Springsteens saxophonist Clarence Clemons in a bit part.
