The first hour of martin scorsese's "new york, new york" is a lot of fun. the humor is clever with good performances from both robert de niro and liza minnelli. but after that first hour, the film loses a lot of steam, and the tone completely changes.
the musical numbers are often boring and go on much longer than they need to. much of the film could have been edited out or made shorter. there's no reason for "new york, new york" to go on well over two hours.
I felt that if the majority of the ending was cut out, the film would have been much more enjoyable.
