Review of New World (2013) by Darian J — 31 Dec 2013
Loaded with plot contrivances and featuring some flashy direction attempts without real substance, New World feels familiar in the worst way. The motivations and characters are mostly cliche and when the twists pile up, they cast the rest of the film as a largely wasteful affair in terms of scenes where nothing of cinematic value happens.
Hoon-jung Park often selects peculiar angles and set-ups with no express purpose. Avoid and watch Infernal Affairs instead.
