Review of Network (1976) by Neil C — 28 Dec 2009
Shockingly true to life (at least these days) dystopian film where the news media is more concerned with ratings than news. Sadly, this film's prophecies came pretty true.
The film is a bit absurd in places, but ultimately this is a great film that everyone should watch, and weep for what we've lost in terms of quality journalism and media that didn't dumb itself down to the lowest common denominator...
I also felt this film kind of touched on some deeper ideas of the loss of meaning in an emerging post modern society, the lack of dignity and class that a society that is obsessed with market share of eyeballs tends to develop. Again, I get the strange feeling I'm living in this world.
Its no wonder I like watching European news broadcasts... :P.
