Review of Network (1976) by Justice M — 08 Dec 2010
Embodying the madness of network television, this film delivers some of he greatest performances of the seventies, including a Academy-Award-Winning performance by Peter Finch of the mentally unstable Howard Beale, who's on-air rants become ratings-gold and are exploited.
Faye Dunaway and Robert Duvall are terrific as cutthroat network executives, but it's William Holden's character that I enjoyed most. His empathy for his mentally ill friend Beale struck a chord with me, and their friendship, too me, was one of the greatest components of the film.
A classic in it's own right from genius director Sidney Lumet, to this day still makes me mad as hell, in all the right ways.
