Review of Ned Kelly (2003) by Hm F — 12 Feb 2011
Period detail and star turns from Ledger and Bloom are the highlights of this Aussie western. Ledger is as usual, never less then captivating in the lead role. Bloom brings his considerable boyish charm as Ned Kelly's second with an eye for the ladies.
The final shootout with a 100 policemen laying siege on the Kelly gang is quite the scene, almost surreal; from the sight of the Kelly gang armored head to toe to monkeys from a traveling circus being shot.
The rain-drenched shootout is the standout sequence of the movie. Although shifts in time are a bit vague and there are some lulls on the momentum of the movie, overall its a solid historical adventure with a final shoot out that has to be seen.
