Review of Near Dark (1987) by Christine W — 29 Nov 2008
Gritty, punky, vampire movie that never uses the word "vampire," "undead," or displays a single cross, mirror, or stake. Not a tuxedo in sight. Set in the dusty southwest amidst broken down pickups, bars with sticky floors, and one-gas station town, these vampire-cowboy-motorcycle gang lunatics are the most interesting screen vampires you will ever see.
The girls who are oohhing and aahhing over Twilight should check out Wild Bill Paxton in his shades and biker gear. Includes some interesting twists on the vampire canon.
