Review of Near Dark (1987) by Hellholehorror — 16 Feb 2022
This is a dark and interesting alternative vampire movie. There were no points were I wanted to turn away from the screen. This is not traditionally scary; the fear comes from the band of the small number of travelling hungry murderous vampires who have seemingly been getting away with killing under the radar for decades.
The action is thoroughly exciting and the style so downplayed that it becomes introspective making it even more interesting. Very well acted and with a vampire style never seen elsewhere. This is not a traditional fangs biting villagers type of affair - this is a very human story told at a breakneck pace with stunning visuals and explosive drama.
Enthralling stuff.
