A interesting story on a change of scenery genre, Near Dark delivers spectacular performances from Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton but fails to deliver a classic vampire movie. The plot revolves around the lead character, Caleb, who is bitten by a young beautiful girl, Mae, and consequently falls into a pack of ruthless killing vampires.

The plot itself is interesting and sustainable. The writing, however, is poor and the actors have a hard time grasping the texts. The only actor who really grabs ahold of the text and embraces it is Bill Paxton.

He created a wonderfully interesting character that is ridiculous and scary simultaneously! The other performance to remember is Lance Henriksen. He is Jesse the "pack" leader and is terrifying throughout the film.

Overall, the plot has too many holes to make it an enjoyable ride throughout but moments really shine including the bar scene. It doesn't come close to it's cousin film, The Lost Boys, but it is a good film in the vampire cannon.
