Review of Near Dark (1987) by Tim W — 28 Sep 2014
I enjoyed Bigelow's vampire film more than I thought I would. Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton were excellent, and the blood transfusion idea for 'curing' vampirism was inspired. Having the movie theatre marquee of 'Aliens'--before her 1989 short-lasting marriage to fellow director James Cameron--was clever as well, as she cheekily went tit-for-tat in the horror market (both films coincidentally with Paxton).
Not one of Tangerine Dream's best soundtracks, but good nevertheless. After the deluge of, pardon the pun, bloody awful vampire movies of late, seeing this was downright refreshing--it was basically Hamlet in comparison.
