When it comes to Vampire films most of them are really fucking horrible. Instead of making them vile fucked up killing machines, they become some sort of romanticized pretty boy. It works sometimes (Interview with the Vampire, 30's Dracula) but most of the time it completely misses the mark.
Near Dark to me is the perfect modern day vampire film that is only rivaled by From Dusk Till Dawn. The Vampires in this film are fucking depraved and really don't give a shit about human emotion. Real creatures of the night.
In a way it also plays like a Western which just adds to the films allure. The cast is top notch and mostly composed of 80's James Cameron Alumni. The FX are brilliant and the music is something you must hear. So do yerself a favor and watch this.
