Review of Near Dark (1987) by Corey B — 05 Nov 2010

I heard of Twilight but never heard of Near Dark,and I wish I watched Near Dark before any of these other crappy vampire films that come out these days. This film is very interesting, its not only a horror but it also is surrounded by a love story, comedy and even has a Western feel to it also.

"Near Dark" Is Directed by "Kathryn Bigelow" and was released in 1987, so yeah its actually a pritty Old-School vampire flick. The film "Twilight" is very similiar in some ascpects, especially how the main character and the co-star which is a vampire get closer to each other through-out, but since "Twilight" sucks that dosent mean that this does, because it dosent., "Near Dark" is a real treat for all Horror fans, vampire fans or not,becuase trust me this brings the goods and is much more clever than most horror films today.

This film is about a Gang of Vampires, and even a kid is part of this Gang., and one thing that I thought was cool about the Gang is that they never called themselves "Vampire" anytime in the movie, infact You dont hear the word "Vampire" even said once in this movie, The Gang just used there real names or names that they have made up. Just like any gang they are bored and look for "Criminal Activity", and in their case the activities are terrorizing People, than ofcourse sucking them dry until they have no blood left, and we all know thats how vampires survive. Also they go to local bars, and they do the same thing, and when they are done they torch the Place on Fire. Thats another aspect that I thought Was really Cool in this Film.

Now ofcourse there has to be more to it than that, well there is and ill just talk a little bit about it., There is a Young Pretty lady In the Gang, she then meets a nice Young Man,-(Which isint a Vampire of course), and than she starts to fall in love with him, and he falls for her too, He does become a vampire and heads off with the Gang for a while, But then something happens that changes everything. Its One of those stories where the Main Actor has to decide who he will be with, and if Some People get up-set, than I think You know what will happen next!.

"Kathyrn Bigelow's" atmospheric Directing in this film looks and feels like it is a dark and gritty Film, and it also blends in perfectly with what the film is actually about.. vampires.. blood,violence., so I recommend this to all horror fans, and even fans of "Twilight", just so You can see this is actually the real deal, its a raw vampire film that is entertaining the whole way through. "let the right one in" is another vampire film that I really enjoyed, it is Just a bit better than "Near Dark" tho, but thats just like saying "Aliens" is just a bit better than "Alien. Watch it Guys, This is an underrated film, that deserves to be known by the horror world, becuase damn guys this one is pritty clever and very different than most films ive ever seen. So does that make it Good??, well I think so!!!
