Review of Nashville (1975) by Max W — 28 Jun 2007
If it's not just a little long, it's hard to sit through, mainly because it's Robert Altman. I think I've only seen two of his other movies (Gosford Park and the amazing A Prairie Home Companion), and although the latter doesn't move the way Altman does normally (or so I'm told), Gosford Park and Nashville both move rather slowly, stopping on characters and examining them for a while, as if the director has only a fleeting interest, like a documentarian without a purpose at first, but one who discovers it through watching the people involved in the story. Hmm. I've read a lot about Robert Altman, since he died recently, and it might be worth doing a retrospective on his movies. I thought I should get through Martin Scorsese first, but who's to say I can't mix it up a little?
This movie made me miss:
- the 70's (even though I wasn't born in them).
- summer.
- big family reunions.
