Review of Nashville (1975) by Stephen H — 05 Jun 2007
This is a film that I admired the first time I saw it. However, it gets five stars because it's also a rare blend of comedy and tragedy and a celebration of America. Robert Altman directs nearly two dozen characters over three days in the country music capital.
The actors wrote and performed their own songs, which range from good to not-so-good. But that's country music for you. Who knew I'd enjoy a film about it though? My advice is to watch it with subtitles on; the actors talk over each other, just like in real life.
