Review of Nashville (1975) by Post G — 22 Nov 2008
A hard movie to rate. Surely a masterpiece in the context of the period, but conversely, not one of Altman's finest. In retrospect, the techniques he developed in this film were honed for future films, many of which surpassed Nashville.
The overall story arc is a little lacking. It doesn't feel like any overall continuity keeps the film together, unlike, for example, Gosford Park, which has a clear overall plotline. Still, like all Altman films, definitely worth a watch.
