Review of Nana 2 (2006) by Lauren C — 05 Dec 2007
Well, I know this movie was severely restrained in terms of time, given the complexity of the manga, but they did a pretty good job hitting the high points. So much had to be cut out, though--Reira was hardly given a bit-part, and her affair with Shin got zero mention; I love both of them, so that was disappointing. One of the most painful parts of the manga--Nana seeing Shouji at Jackson Hole--was also omitted; I almost started crying just reading that. Also, during the fireworks, when Nana is knocking on the door of 707 and Nobu is on the other side of the door, not answering, I almost started yelling at my book. Those moments of such incredible raw tension were lost. So much of the vibrance of the manga was in those conversations and digressions, and without it, I can see why the movie would seem flat to somebody who hasn't read the manga.
Also, all of the actors are GORGEOUS--awesome eye candy for everybody. Even Takumi, loathe as I am to admit it because I hate his selfish, stupid ass. Oosaki Nana makes me want to buy a mini-skirt and kick people with boots. I love her.
Oh, and Yasu and I--getting married. Like now.
