Review of Mystic River (2003) by Tonyb. — 25 Oct 2005
This was the best film of the year, one of those all too rare examples of a work that deserves all of the praise bestowed on it. What Clint Eastwood has done here is show once again that understatement will win out over extravagance any time.
The film doesn't have a single false note. Brilliantly acted by an ensemble cast who have never given better performances, Mystic River has a deliberate pace that perfectly complements its narrative structure and style.
It has been superbly designed, photographed, scored and edited, the result being the full realization of a classical tragic tale.
