Review of Mystery Train (1989) by Steven M — 26 Aug 2009
My first Jarmusch film. I liked the laid-back style and thought that the narrative was deceptively complex. It felt like Pulp Fiction, but slowed right down. I also think that the most interesting of the protagonists were the Japanese couple. After that, I was waiting more for the explanation of the gunshot than I was caring for the characters. Unfortunately, it appears Joe Strummer was not cut out for acting, but Screamin' Jay Hawkins absolutley was. His scenes are great. So great, in fact, that one of them is actually repeated.
Memorable, but not outstandingly so.
