Review of Mystery Train (1989) by Lilian W — 10 Dec 2010
Jim Jarmusch's first color feature and man does he know his colors!! With a very aesthetic palette, he paints contrasting layers of visual vividness, adding life to the picture against the greyish, mysterious tone of the film.
The three stories are not interesting in themselves, but the dialog, the performances and the ever Jarmuschisque quirky humor will keep you glued. There is mystery in the air, but it's not really what matters.
P.S. If I ever smoke pot, Screamin Jay Hawkins would be the one I split my joint with :D.
