Review of My Sister's Keeper (2009) by Greg P — 11 Dec 2011
A poor adaptation of a book that so successfully straddles the line between schmaltzy contrivance and being genuinely moving. Unfortunately Nick Cassavetes' film adaptation plumps entirely for the former, miscasting Cameron Diaz and Alec Baldwin, and cranking up the Hollywood sheen in its rabid attempt to get the audience reaching for those tissues.
In reality My Sister's Keeper is far too shallow and self-aware to have any real emotional impact on its audience, and consequently fails in its primary objective.
